    PART B: Prison Volunteer Position
In this section, we get into the opportunities and the constraints on in-prison volunteering.
      Position applied for
Here are the positions we currently could use:
      • Teaching Assistant (in-class)
      • General Tutor (study hall)
What is your major field of study? (e.g. "History") Do you have a significant additional competency (e.g. fluency in a second language)?
Please name the academic disciplines for which you would be qualified to serve as a tutor or mentor (e.g. "Economics, Biology, Writing/Composition")
Please name any academic disciplines for which you would be particularly uncomfortable serving as a tutor or teaching assistant (e.g. "Math, Art, Sociology")
      Semester(s) you are interested in
Select the semester(s) in which you would be interested in volunteering in prison:
      • Spring 2025
      • Summer 2025
      • Fall 2025
Current NY-DOCCS policy is that no-one under the age of 21 can actively volunteer in a correctional facility. By sharing your age, you allow us to quickly identify when you will be available to participation in the program inside prison.
I am 21 Years of Age or Older
By checking this box you understand that you must be 21 years of age or older (or will be by the date you begin volunteering) to participate in the program inside prison.
      Car/Driver?
We rely on private transportation to travel to the prisons that we work with; thus, we must pay close attention to the driving status of our volunteers. Please check this box if you have a car and would be willing to drive to prison. If you cannot drive or lack a car, leave the box unchecked:
      Statement of Interest
In 1-2 paragraphs, provide a brief statement explaining why you are interested in prison education, what it means to you, and what you hope to bring to the program.
