The Long-Term Future Fund aims to positively influence the long-term trajectory of civilization, primarily via making grants that contribute to the mitigation of global catastrophic risks. The fund has an intentionally broad remit that encompasses a wide range of potential projects, but we are particularly interested in small teams and individuals that are trying to get projects off the ground, or that need less money than existing grant-making institutions are likely to give out.

Governance of artificial intelligence
We currently focus on reducing the worst risks of astronomical suffering (s-risks) from emerging technologies, with a focus on transformative artificial intelligence. Together with others in the effective altruism community, we want careful ethical reflection to guide the future of our civilization to the greatest extent possible. We want to prevent a situation similar to the advent of nuclear weapons, in which thinking about the serious implications of this technology took a back seat during th
