Play Martian Rails Live!

Explore

This base supports live gameplay for Martian Rails, and includes tracking for players, resources, transactions, and more.

ā€‹

Martian Rails is a rail-builder style board game with the goal to move resources across the red planet. Planning your routes, cargo, and resources can be tricky as the game goes on, and I built this base to help keep track of all the moving parts. And as a bonus, using Miro + Airtable Blocks, I'm able to play this game live in real-time with anyone else!

ā€‹

Live gameplay using Miro

Using Airtable's Miro block, I uploaded a high-resolution photo of the game board into Miro. Using their drawing tools, every player is able to select their own colors and draw the rails in real-time. This re-creates the (almost) same experience as sitting down with one another and drawing the lines using the crayons included in the game. It's worth mentioning that both groups of players already owned the full game in their respective houses.

Route planner

Add any of your current loads and planned drops, as well as the next load + drop you want to do. You'll get an automatically generated set of instructions to jog your memory as you play.

ā€‹

Loads

There are 33 different payloads that you can pickup and deliver across Barsoom (Mars). The loads table lists out every resource, how many are available, and which cities carry them.

ā€‹

Cities

Each of the 46 cities on the map carries different resources (loads) that are available to pickup one you reach them. This table shows those resources, as well as the coordinates for where you can find the city on the map. There's even a handy image that shows which hemisphere, and section, the city can be found in for quick reference.

ā€‹

Players

This is a summary table showing how many of the 6 major cities each player has reached (you need 5 to win), as well as how much cash they have on hand.

ā€‹

Transactions

A running log to see each player's cash flow throughout the game. You need $250 to win.

ā€‹

Blocks

The blocks setup in the base are for quick use or reference during gameplay. See everyone's active loads, major cities reached, cash flows, and even take a shot at the flashcard quiz to learn the names of all the resources.
