Run a Quiz on Zoom

Explore

After taking part in a number of zoom quizzes. I didn't come across any set up that had an easy way for participants to submit answers and have them scored easily by the host. Particularly where the quiz has free-text answers rather than multiple-choice.

As a quiz host, this base allows you to

  • share text or picture based questions (and answers) with participants
  • score the answers for each round quickly
  • automatically generate a leaderboard

With this solution, participants can

  • create their team
  • submit their answers on any device

Base Structure

  1. Questions - All questions and answers are added here. It's set up for 10 rounds with 10 questions. There is also a picture field to accommodate picture based questions
  2. Teams - Participants submit their team name via a form. Their score is displayed in this table also.
  3. Answers - Has a form for participants to submit their answers and a filtered view for the submissions for each round where each answer can be scored.

How to set up the quiz

The base is pre-populated with 100 questions and answers pulled from a random google search.

  1. In the "Questions" table go to the "All Questions & Answers" view
  2. Each question is assigned to a "Round" and "Question #"
  3. Replace the prepopulated questions and answers with your own questions and answers (or don't if you want to use them)
  4. For picture rounds, attach the relevant picture in the "Image Question" column
  5. There is also a "Round Theme" field that is displayed to the participants when running the quiz.

How to invite participants

  1. Go to the "Answers" table and copy the share link to the "Answers Form"
  2. Go to the Teams table and in the "Create your Team" form view edit the "after the form is submitted message to include a link to the answers form copied in step 1
  3. Once the form is updated, share the link with the participant so they can create their team. The link added in the confirmation message will bring them to where they need to be to start answering questions.

Running the quiz

Once everyone has created their team and has access to the "Answers Form", you are ready to start the quiz.

  1. In the "Questions" table, go the "Question Round" view or "Picture Round". Update the filter to the appropriate round and the questions for that round will be displayed.
  2. Add a secondary filter on the "Question #" column if you only want to display one question at a time.
  3. Once you have the view configured, share your screen with the participants to start the round.

Submitting answers

  1. Each participant** **will submit their answers via the "Answer Form".
  2. First, they must select their team name and add the round number.
  3. There is a field for each of the 10 questions where that can add their answers.
  4. Once the round is complete they can submit their answers.
  5. The form is configured to reset to an empty form after submitting so it can be reused for each round.

Scoring

  1. In the "Answers" table, there is a view for each round "Round N Scoring Sheet".
  2. Next to each answer is a score column where you can assign a score for each question. It's configured to allow half points or multiple point scores.
  3. The scores are automatically calculated and the leaderboard is sorted automatically in the "Teams" table in the "Leaderboard" view.

Other Views

In the "Questions" table, there are views that allow you to share the answers to previous rounds easily. These views both end "w/answers". Filter for the appropriate round and share your screen to show easily share the answers with all participants.
