Gestational Diabetes Tracker

Explore

I initially felt a bit overwhelmed in being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. There are a lot of apps out there but they track so many different things, and I wasn't sure what would be most relevant for me. I was often confused by some of the terms in the diabetes apps, and also wasn't satisfied with the user experience of a lot of them, or I found myself needing a barrage of apps to track the basics of what I needed to report to my doctor.
Notes on the tracking types and fields:

  • There is the option to tag a few things within one field so you can mix and match as it makes sense.
  • For example, occasionally, I might have lunch and want to track the notes and carb estimate on the notes, but if I forgot my blood sugar checker at home, or didn't get the blood sugar logged at the one hour meal mark, I could separately log a "blood sugar check" independent from the meal.
  • Another example: Fasting blood sugar typically means that you haven't eaten anything overnight and this is your first check in the morning. This was the hardest one for me to control and there were a few strategies we tried to help manage this. One was having a "late" night snack, so if I had a "late" dinner or a "late" night snack, I would add the tag "late" next to the meal. This was not found to be super helpful to me, though, we did try, when I had a mid-sleep snack, it helped keep the blood sugar from spiking in the morning. I added the tag "snack" after the "Fasting Blood Sugar" type, so it would be clear that this particular blood sugar check was a few hours after a night snack.
  • Exercise and minutes are also fields that are options for tracking so women can review the impact of walks and exercise on blood sugar readings.
  • Food photos is another field, if you want to quickly grab a photo of your meal and log it later in the notes as to what you ate and add the carbohydrate estimates later.

Form option:There is a view with a form that I added as a link on my phone so I could easily log information on the go. Sometimes the date/time stamp was hard to get in the right place with this, so I often just used the mobile airtable app for logging.

I'm publishing this in case it's helpful to other women that are looking for simple ways to keep track of food, exercise and blood sugar tracking during pregnancy.
