100 Rejections

Some love letters are spreadsheets. This one is for the community of Poems that Don't Suck, students of Megan Falley. I wanted a way to track poetry submissions that can switch between viewing individual poems -- tracking their path from glimmer to publication -- and viewing journal submissions.

I like to start with the Poems tab, put in titles, and give them a status. The Kanban view is a nice overview, and you can drag poems around.

Then go to the Journals tab. Put in journals you want to submit to, optionally with deadlines. When you're ready to submit, go to the "Pieces" column and click the plus, and you can select which poems you want to include in the package. This helps me see which ones are undersubmitted or still waiting to hear back from.

Then a couple of cute things happen. On the poems tab, they'll be automatically updated with every place you've sent it to. You'll also see a counter for the number of times it's been rejected. On the journals tab, contests in the future will show a counter for how many days away they are. Clicking on the Calendar view lets you see them coming up, and you can even subscribe to this calendar in iCal and Google calendar. There are a couple of check marks if you want to keep track of withdrawing the poem from other contests.

It would be nice to get things to update more automatically, but I think that requires a pro subscription. I'm enjoying it so far, let me know how you use it, or if you have other suggestions. Instagram: ArdonofEden
