ALL the Books Recommended by EVERY guest on The Ezra Klein Show

Explore

This is a collation of all the books recommended by every guest that came on The Ezra Klein Show organised by most recommended and by guest appearances. It is one of the best long form interview shows when it comes to the depth of the topics discussed, the diversity and expertise of the lineup of guests and the very thoughtful interview questions that had yielded such nuanced and insightful responses. This list reflects the breadth of topics, some of which I did not know that I did not know! It's definitely a useful list to go through to expand your horizons.

The Vox chapter of the show ends on episode 393 (the podcast is called Vox Conversations now) and 394 onwards is the Ezra Klein Show on NYTimes. We're up to date as of 8 April 2024 on episode 697.

This Airtable base is best view on a computer browser, but if you are viewing on mobile, the most useful view will be the Books Gallery view.

The base is organised by:

Guests

a. Grid view: in the order they appeared in the show (you can go there to see all the books recommended by a guest if you're interested in that particular guest).

b. Gallery view: sorted so that the guests with the most books recommended come first

As I've been asked about "must listen" episodes, I've also indicated here which episodes are my favourites.

Books

a. Grid view: books in the order they are recommended

b. Gallery view: sorted so that books with most recommendations come first

c. Kanban: this allows you to manage your own reading progress, starting from "Maybe" "Want to read" "Reading" "read" "read and love"

Authors

a. Grid view: alphabetical order

b. Gallery view: sorted so that authors with the most books recommended will appear first, followed by those with the most guests recommending their books.

Notes:

The guest profiles are shortened from the podcast show notes.

The "Why you should read this book" is summarised from the reasons given by the guests

I've included affiliate links that lead you directly to the books. I prioritise versions that are the cheapest on Amazon, or have the best translations or to where you can read articles for free. For books on the public domain, I link them directly to resources I've found for free downloads.
