Organization Planning

Explore

This Organization Planning base is designed to help growing start-ups plan their hiring and reporting structure for the coming year, appropriately plan for time to hire for new positions, and understand their total headcount budget for the year.

How to use this base

  1. Add your current roster into the 'Employee' section, including name, title, location, target compensation (Salary + Incentive Pay).
    1. Categorize employees job type and job level. This helps if you ever intend to do compensation benchmarking.
    2. Fill in the 'Reports to' field if you'd like a visual org chart.
  2. Add your hiring plan to the 'To be hired' (TBH) section, including title, location, and target pay.
    1. Categorize TBH job type and job level (if you'd like comp benchmarks for new positions)
    2. Fill in the 'Reports to' field if you'd like a visual org chart

What’s next

Hiring timeline: Go to the 'Hiring Timeline' view to see when you'll need to start marketing each position and when you'll be conducting interviews and screens in order to hit your target start dates.

  • You can also get a sense of how you might need to engage a hiring partner (like WhoCo) to ensure all your desired hires are made.
  • Confirm you have the bandwidth to reasonably make those hires. Remember: hiring is a team sport. The more you’re hiring, the more you’ll need from everyone on the team.

Org chart: Go to the 'Org chart' Extension to visualize the entire team, including TBHs.

Compensation benchmarking: Use the job type, job level, and employee location to get compensation benchmarking data, and compare your target comp to 25th, 50th, and 75th percentile comp for people in similar positions. Don’t have that data? Send your completed file to murray@whoco.com, and we’ll get back to you with those benchmarks for free!

Budget: Go to the 'Current team + Future hires' view to see the 2023 Cost for current and future team based on the start dates and total comp you've entered.

Finally, be sure to brush up on the best practices for attracting talent and evaluating candidates in today’s market.
