Writer (Contract) at Giving What We Can

Giving What We Can is a community of effective givers. We provide the support, community, and information you need to do the most good with your charitable donations. Part of the way we achieve this is by publishing blog posts, charity recommendations, cause-area reviews, and other material that can help create a world where giving significantly and effectively is a cultural norm. We're looking to hire writers on a contractual basis to further our thought leadership in the space of effective giving. As a writer, you'll play a crucial role in helping us summarise, simplify, and spread the latest ideas related to effective giving. Successful candidates must have: • Experience writing for the public. • A familiarity/interest in effective altruism, and an understanding of Giving What We Can's priorities and mission. • An ability to translate complex ideas into clear and concise material that can be read by a lay-audience. • A rigorous approach to evaluating evidence and ideas. • Clear reasoning: You can clearly explain your thought process, you acknowledge supporting evidence, and you communicate uncertainties frankly and precisely. It would also be nice if you have: • An academic background in philosophy, economics, history, political science, or other similar fields that relate to effective altruism. • Comfortability reading and summarising academic research and/or data. • Experience with SEO best practices and keyword research. Compensation for this role will be $30 USD/hour, though if you're a very experienced writer, we would consider a higher rate. Please note that this is not a full-time or permanent role and work can fluctuate depending on the organisation's needs. Do note that you cannot save an in-progress application, so make sure not to close this tab before you complete the form and submit it. Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
