As the first African anchor to headline state news in China, Vimbayi has a lot to say about the power of representation.
A poet, writer and speaker, Vimbayi draws creative inspiration from her experiences living in many countries - and thus through the lens of several intersectional, global identities. She has amassed a collection of 15 years of unpublished poetry written in different parts of the world. Her poetry ranges from intimately sensual to curious inquiry. Her titles notoriously appear at the end. Her work is a commentary on how the world impacts and evolves her sense of self. It is also her activism.
Vimbayi was born in Zimbabwe to diplomat parents who travelled the world and read her a ton of bedtime stories, many of which frightened her. She is now in the process of penning a psychothriller.
For other work, Vimbayi is recognized by governments and top institutions. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a TED and Davos speaker who regularly interviews presidents of countries and captains of industries. She is a mentor, a Friendship Special Envoy and Cultural Ambassador, an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford, a recurring speaker at Arizona Thunderbird School of Business and a board member of the Museum of African Diaspora in San Francisco.
Vimbayi is eager to see where her poetry will take her and is currently seeking representation and more open mics. Her vision is to create an immersive and multisensory experience of her work.
