Disasters disproportionately affect poor and vulnerable populations, including those with serious mental illness. There are strategies available to mitigate the outcome of this epidemic this patient population. This article highlights the importance of supporting patients with serious mental illness and engagement with mental health service users, clinicians, and federal and state policies.
