Minor in Professional Writing Capstone Internship Application

Professional writing is high quality writing, often reflecting specialized knowledge, styles and formats, done in an occupational or scholarly setting. Through this application, you are requesting a professional writing internship in a Columbus-area workplace. You will be prompted to answer several questions about your contact information, course history and interests. At the end of this survey, you will be able to upload your 5 portfolio files on this page. The following questions ask you about which requirements you have completed toward the Minor in Professional Writing. Have your advising report in front of you to answer these. Have you completed or tested out of your second-level writing requirement, 2367?
In which department did you complete 2367?
Which Group A elective(s) did you complete, or are you enrolled in this semester? If you have not completed this yet, choose "Exception."
Which Group B elective(s) did you complete, or are you enrolled in this semester? If you have not completed this yet, choose "Exception."

What topics or organization areas are most exciting to you? Choose at least 3.
This is mostly about learning your interests—don't worry if don't yet have much experience in the area yet. We can talk through the balance of interest and experience later during the consultation / placement interview stage.

What kinds of writing or writing-related tasks are you interested in doing during your internship? Choose at least 3.
Again, don't worry about if you have a ton of experience in the area yet. If you're interested, check it! We can talk through the balance of interest and experience later during the consultation / placement interview stage.

  • Grant writing
  • Print-based marketing (posters, brochures and other deliverables, using skills with Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
  • Digital-based marketing (blog writing, social media, etc.)
  • Internal business communications (emails, business-to-business communications, memos, etc.)
  • Creative writing
  • Writing for the media (radio, journalism, etc.)
Is there anything you want to add about the writing-type and organization-type placement choices you just made?
Here, you could elaborate on what you think your favorite categories mean, highlight areas you feel strongly about, or tell us if there's another area we didn't list you want to mention. Or, if there's a particular placement you've heard about and you've been looking forward to, you may mention that. While we can't guarantee a particular placement, we'll do our best to find the best placement for you based on your interests and skills! Also note that nothing you put here is binding—we'll talk through this during the consultation and interview process.

What transportation will you have the semester you want an internship?
Please only indicate you have a car if you are completely confident about this. If you choose "No Car," you can change this answer to "Yes, I have a car" later during the interview process.
How did you hear about the Minor?
Is there anything else you would like to add?
This could be about your strengths in professional writing (if your cover letter couldn't capture everything you want in only 1 page), your interests, which term you want to do the internship or anything else. You could also mention here if you already have your own writing internship that you are hoping will count toward the MPW capstone internship.* We will discuss the requirements and process for that when we meet. If you have your own writing internship or want to apply to one on your own, you must ask about this BEFORE you make your placement choices.
