Wild Animal Initiative
Ecology undergrad, lifelong environmentalist. Currently interested in the intersection of carbon sequestration efforts and wild animal welfare.
At Wild Animal Initiative, trying to start the field of welfare biology and collaborate with researchers, land managers, policy makers, etc.

Would love to get to know more effective environmentalists, hear what people are working on and how they’re thinking about it, and discuss any questions anyone has about wild animal welfare in the context of effective environmentalism.

Advice on how to find a career in the EE space

Climate change economics, where we should best focus our efforts, how to expand the EE movement, social aspect of EE (in relation to poverty)
development economics
Grad Student
Not much real work in this area as of yet. I am finishing off grad school in development economics right now. I have a general interest and also see this as an essential component of all development efforts that is yet to be acknowledged and incorporated sufficiently. I recently worked on a report regarding climate change and agriculture.
Can help with data analysis, writing, outreach, other miscellaneous tasks
I would like to learn more about climate change related efforts, methods to assess them, how to scale them in communities appropriately etc. Also want to explore how I can contribute currently, as well as in the long term once I get out of graduate school.

cost-of-service and performance based regulation

intra-state agency coordination
smart grid interoperability
I am a program manager and design events on investor-owened utility (electricity) regulation. Also am a co-organizer for EADC. Topics include: resource planning, transmission & distribution system coordination (in operations, planning and markets), rate design, cost-of-service and performance based regulation, the stakeholder process, intra-state agency coordination, smart grid interoperability, etc.
I do it to help state governments figure out best practices with the utility system so that we can maintain a reliable, safe, and affordable system. However, the role of the state is evolving as grid modernization is taking place. I am helping my members deal with incorproating these changes into their anaylsis and generally help them get answers to their questions. I suppose I would place this topic under the "managing the energy transition" category of EE.
United States local-state-federal perspectives on electricity and other utilities (natural gas, water, telecommunications). Fish Welfare Initiative
I am working as a Research and Project Strategist with the Fish Welfare Initiative. One of my bigger projects is determining other areas which result out of altered fish welfare or impact welfare. There are interesting links to environmental problems, in particular climatic warming which will have a substantial impact on aquaculture. I have been thinking about why Environmentalism and Conservation does not seem to get a lof of EA attention and would like to explore whether this is grounded in some substantial reasoning or whether we should give it more thought.
I am working a lot on CEAs right now and could potentially give some feedback on these. Also, I have been working as an independent author before and can always help with creating some blog posts or other material for EE topics (or anything else that would help you).

Further developing the EE community. I am really excited to discuss this cause area and explore which leverage environmental challenges give us to do effective work.

How EE can be integrated into the EA community. Also, which value tackling environmental problems has and whether this is a cause area that we have been neglecting so far (because it might seem not neglected enough e.g.)

ALLFED
PhD Student
ALLFED, Justus-Liebig University
Hi, I’m Florian. I am enthusiastic about working on large scale problems that require me to learn new skills and extend my knowledge into new fields and subtopics. My main interests are climate change, existential risks, feminism, history, hydrology and food security. I hope to find a place where I can work on some (or all?) of these topics, apply my data science skills, work in a team and share my knowledge by writing articles and giving courses and presentations. If you have similar interests or know of an organisation I would fit in well, let’s get in touch!
I am currently planning to write a research proposal to finance my PostDoc. The rough direction will be how environmental processes and societal collapse interact. An example of something like this would be this article by Luke Kemp: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190218-the-lifespans-of-ancient-civilisations-compared I'd be happy to get feedback and inspirations :) However, I am a bit unsure about more concrete research questions. Ping me if you have been thinking along similar lines :)

Insights into academia and doing a PhD. Broad knowledge about environmental topics. I also volunteer for ALLFED and would be happy to talk about it. Doing GIS related work and some environmental data analysis.

I'd love to learn more about hard-to-decarbonize sectors and job opportunities in EA-aligned climate!

I have a background in framing and US state-level policy, so I can give advice and talk about those topics. I might also be able to pitch in as a volunteer, if you need someone with strong project management and/or writing skills!

University of Nigeria Alt Protein Project
I am a Nigerian national who holds a degree in Food Science and Technology from Kogi State University and currently studying for a masters in Food Biotechnology. I am highly enthusiastic about food security and sustainability and how to sustainably feed our growing population globally. I am big on climate advocacy and environmentalism, and considering where I come from, I hope to address the level of climate skepticism that is quite still mainstream and work with those interested in climate mitigation activities.
I am the founder of the Alt Protein Project, the first student led movement to advocate for research, education and innovation into alternative proteins or other sustainable protein forms in order to transition the country from the overdependent production of animal proteins to a more sustainable, secure and safe one.
Support and opportunities to host events in my locality that promote EE's objectives. Join a global network of like minded individuals to discuss ways and methods of our advancing our shared goals for mankind and sustainability.

I can help with carrying out research in my locality that are related to environmentalism and propose certain areas of intervention that may be needed. I am also into alternative proteins advocacy which can help reduce global emissions and protect the environment from wastes gotten from animal agriculture, therefore I want to use that platform to promote the goals of EE too.
