PURPOSE The City and Borough of Juneau recognizes that the arts are vital to the cultural atmosphere of the community and are directly responsible for creating a way of life which leads to human fulfillment. In 1988, in a resolution Serial No. 1295 it designated the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council as the official arts agency for the City. In that capacity, the Council is called on to administer the investment of city funds to artists and arts organizations within the Borough to contribute to community life through the arts. This program invests funds in local artists of exceptional talent to produce original works of art, to advance their careers, and/or to add provide inspiration to the community at large. Artists in any creative discipline may apply, including: • Visual Artists: painters, sculptors, printmakers, filmmakers, craftspeople, photographers and video artists; • Creative Writers: writers of poetry and prose, playwrights, and screenwriters; • Composers, choreographers, dancers, designers, musicians, actors, • and other artists not falling within an artistic discipline listed above. This program enables artists to set aside time to create or present works of art, conduct research, purchase materials, attend workshops or seminars, generally advance their professional artistic careers, or cover loss of artistic materials resulting from theft, fire or other emergencies or disasters.
