Winter 2021: Apply to Fruitful School

fruitful.school is an independently-run web workshop founded in Winter 2020 by John Provencher and Laurel Schwulst. For our remote / virtual Winter 2021 workshop, participants will self-publish a piece to the www over the course of 6 weeks. We will be striving to make websites for a "fruitful web." Learn more at www.fruitful.school. For this Winter 2021 session, we have available ~8 full-priced spots. Note that our half-priced spots have already been spoken for this session. Applications are due on 11:59pm EST on Sunday, December 20th, 2020.

1. SOIL
The first section of this application, "SOIL," is for us to understand where you’re coming from and where you might be going.
Carefully double check that your email is entered correctly, as any typos will result in us not being able to communicate with you ~

2. SEED
The second section of this application, "SEED," is your proposal for your project over the course of 6 weeks. Seeds could be anything. Maybe you have an idea about a container for a website such as a URL or website name. Or maybe you have a specific piece of content you’d like to publish online but don’t know how or in what form. Or you already have a fully-fledged concept with both content and container imagined together harmoniously. Seeds are a starting point to help us better understand what you’d like to get out of this workshop. This is the most important part of the application. We recommend writing around 500 words below. Be clear about: your intentions (why this project?), the imagined functionality of your site (what does it do? how does it work?), and what you imagine it looking or feeling like (describe your vision). Not everything has to be figured out yet, but we find a strong seed will keep your interest over the 6 weeks even if the specific details of your project changes.
What’s your proposal for a web-based project?

3. BEFORE YOU GO
Finally, we'd like to confirm a few important details. Select "agreed" if you understand: 🍐 To participate in this all virtual workshop, you should have a computer with a good internet connection and a reliable physical place to tune in that's relatively quiet and free of distraction. The sessions will take place on Whereby (https://whereby.com), a web-based video meeting platform with privacy concern. We will also have an asynchronous chat along with regular email communication channels. 🍐 You can attend all the sessions that comprise this Winter 2021 workshop. The workshop will run for 6.5 weeks total and will meet synchronously twice a week: 1) on Sunday afternoons 12–3pm EST, 2) on Wednesday evenings 7–8pm EST, for a total of 13 meetings: Week 1 * Sunday, February 7, 12–3pm EST * Wednesday, February 10, 7–8pm EST Week 2 * Sunday, February 14, 12–3pm EST * Wednesday, February 17, 7–8pm EST Week 3 * Sunday, February 21, 12–3pm EST * Wednesday, February 24, 7–8pm EST Week 4 * Sunday, February 28, 12–3pm EST * Wednesday, March 3, 7–8pm EST Week 5 * Sunday, March 7, 12–3pm EST * Wednesday, March 10, 7–8pm EST Week 6 * Sunday, March 14, 12–3pm EST * Wednesday, March 17, 7–8pm EST Final Day! * Sunday, March 21, 12–3pm EST (To be clear for any possible worldwide participants: EST means "Eastern Standard Time" which is UTC -5. Note that "pm" is not 24 hour time, and 7–8pm means 19:00–20:00, and 12–3pm means 12:00–15:00.) 🍐 Though this workshop is only 6 weeks, it does become a time commitment to attend each session. We realize things will come up, and you might miss a meeting or two, but we strongly recommend you prioritize attending most of these dates in order to get the most out of the workshop. 🍐 You will be able to pay $1,500 USD by January 7, 2021. This fee makes this workshop possible. 🍐 You can expect to hear from us via email about the status of your application during the week of Monday, December 28th. 🍐 You have read and adhere to our Code of Conduct — https://fruitful.school/#conduct.
