Agricultural labour is getting scare around the world. This leads to: higher food prices and limited availability, especially of labour-intensive things like fruit and vegetables. It also leads to less optimal practices (e.g. applying all chemicals as a spray instead of in more targeted fashion) that currently save on labour costs.
Move more human tasks to robotics, moving towards full autonomy over time.
Technical challenge, time to market, cost of initial product

#1: Livestock agriculture causes the majority of the negative environmental impacts of all agriculture. #2: Using sentient animals as food factories is morally wrong#3: Antibiotic use in the livestock is leading to AMR
Animal products (meat, dairy, eggs, leather etc.) can be produced in vitro using cell cultures. Taking the animal out of the question cuts down significantly on environmental impacts, animal welfare issues and disease risks for human health.

Keep learning + talking to experts and be opportunistic
Crop success (yields, environmental impact etc.) is a big component of global food supply. Lower costs of food production improve the standards of living of billions worldwide.
Genetic improvement of crops and symbiotic organisms to boost crops across a number of dimensions (yield, environmental impact etc.)
Unintended consequences, public animosity towards GMO

#1: Livestock agriculture requires ~2-20x of the environmental inputs to produce equivalent calorie -or- gram protein, compared to plants. #2: Using sentient animals as food factories is morally wrong #3: Antibiotic use in livestock industry is potentially leading to AMR #4: Some people believe that plant-based foods are healthier than animal-based foods
Provide people better plant-based foods to shift diets away from animal-based, including (but not limited to) mimicking meat
Public adoption, increased food processing

Figure out more about the impact Figure out more about the process Maybe eventually start my own if makes sense * Insect-based protein powder -> viable?
* Plant proteins are low environmental impact but may not be nutritionally complete proteins * Animal proteins from large animals are environmentally expensive and prone to mistreatment * Food waste is a real issue (~40% of all food)
Insect proteins have the great nutritional profile of animals but the limited environmental impact of plants. Potential for insect farming to produce high quality food sources. They may also be able to feed on food waste to turn this into human edible food
"ick" factor, culinary adoption

Understand detailed future impacts to food + ag impacts of climate change
Climate change is happening. The only question is one of degree. This will unleash a whole host of changes and challenges for the world's food growers and suppliers. Likely the biggest of these will be changing growing conditions across the world's outdoor farms, which means historical practices will become less effective.
* Crop varieties / breeds * Microbials * Soil supplements * Water use optimisation * Planning and forecasting tools * Spoilage prevention, cheaper refrigeration methods

Hard to score given diversity of problems and solutions. Still useful to have here given the thematic link between all of the problems.

#1: Agriculture uses a lot of land and water #2: Agriculture is subject to costly volatility from weather and disease
Indoor / vertical farming
How much can this help global food production? Benefits may be outweighed by costs in 2019, except in specialized scenarios.
