Research Scientist Application
Remote / Full Time or Part Time (We evaluate applications on a rolling basis.) Mission Kaido Labs is a research group that aims to combat the critical absence of defensive biological capabilities. Our current research programs are focused on genetic firewalls and pathogen-agnostic sequencing. Qualifications To achieve our mission, we need brilliant researchers. We're looking to hire someone with 2-3 years of biology / computational research experience or demonstrated excellence in a related field. That person will assist the program manager in ongoing research. Example responsibilities include: - Performing comprehensive technical reviews - Designing schematics and engineering prototypes - Designing experimental procedures - Performing market research If that sounds like your cup of tea, we would love to hear from you. Culture 1. Technology-Centric We believe that better technology is the solution to most problems. In public health, inadequate policy is often the stated reason for market failures, but great technology drives policy change. We’ll still work closely with government agencies while keeping innovation at our core. 2. Relentless We aim to demonstrate the feasibility of biosecurity solutions through relentless R&D. We perform exhaustive investigations to ensure the core ideas and technologies are rock-solid. In order to deliver on aggressive goals, we put in %110. Kaido is for A-players. Period. 3. Agentic Agency is defaulting to action rather than inaction. You own your role. You make the calls when it comes to how you want to research: whether you use AI to generate summaries, schedule meetings with other experts, or simply read papers, the method is up to you. Micromanaging is painful and leads to organizational dysfunction; we fully trust you to accomplish your goal, your way. 4. Open-Minded Typical for a portfolio approach, we don’t expect all of our research directions to pan out, and we aren’t afraid to kill our darlings. To pivot effectively, we demand decision-making excellence, and we don’t let emotions color our judgment. We embrace a culture of thoughtful disagreement and critical, constructive feedback. Ego has no place when public health is at stake. 5. Positive-Sum At the end of the day, we’re all working toward improving society. Healthy competition and robust support networks are at the heart of what Kaido stands for.
