Which artwork is this a concept for? *
- Effigy
- Temple
Please provide an email address where any questions about your project can be directed.
Please, only ONE address.
Your background *
Tell us why you are suitable for the role of Burnable Art Build Lead - we want to know why you’ve decided to apply for this role.
What are your experiences/passions that have led you to this point? Now is a great time to talk yourself up!
- {name}
Have you participated in building Temple, Effigy, or a large art installation before? *
- I've led a large-scale burnable art project
- I've been part of a large-scale burnable art team
- I've led/worked on a large-scale art project
- This would be my first large scale art project
You can change this later - but what are you currently calling this crazy idea?!
What's your concept? *
We want you to inspire us with this section. Why does this art have such power? How will people connect with it? Why do you think this design is the best that Kiwiburn will ever see?
Give us an outline of your concept, philosophy, and inspiration, and you can upload documents and images below to provide more details.

How will you be building this artwork? *
Tell us about your design, and how it will be constructed.

What is the approximate height of your project? *

- You've got a plan and budget for mobile scaffold and some trained crew for the work at heights
6 metres and over
- You've got a plan, crew, and a budget for heavy machinery for the work at heights
- Up to 3m
- 3m to 6m
- 6m+
What is the approximate base width of your project? *
Please describe the base, including maximum and minimum widths (in metres)
- {name}
Drawing and Concept Documentation *
We'd love to see drawings and more detailed descriptions of your concept - at this stage, hand drawn descriptions are fine, and you can also use your words to flesh-out the design so we have a picture painted in our minds of your design.
The drawing should clearly show the appearance of your design. You need to include basic height/diameter measurements and show an idea of how you expect it to be constructed.
We aren’t looking for the best drawing or most powerful words – we want to know that you know what this will look like.
Please upload PDFs, JPEGs, PNG, DOC, DOCX, XLS, or XLSX documents. You can upload multiple files.

Your Budget *
Based on your design's complexity and projected costs of construction, a budget of up to $9,000 is available.
Based on our experience with prior burnable art projects Kiwiburn expects you to set aside 10% of your budget as a contingency fund for unforeseen costs or plan changes that may arise during the build. Trust us – after a few years of experience we know that you’ll appreciate having some money tucked away for a rainy (or very windy) day.
We want to see your working, so include links or photos of prices that you are basing your budget totals off. These can be rough quotes, but they do need to be reasonable.
For your Basic Budget, note down reusable items (generator, power tools, cherry-picker etc.) that you will want to use during your build, with clear indication of what you can afford within you budget and what you would like to ask MPW about accessing.
How would you like to send us your budget?
- File Upload
- Google Sheets Link
Build Crew - tell us about your crew recruitment approach *
Right now, we only need to know who you and your 2IC will be, and get an understanding of your approach to building your crew. If you can provide a more complete list of crew members that is great, you can give us the details on the next page! If not, that is fine too.
If you don’t have a full crew or any crew members who are builders, engineers, draftsperson, or with rigging experience (dogging) confirmed at the time of application, we will support you to find volunteers for your team as required.
While we want to encourage new artists, we suggest a ratio of 50% skilled or returning builders on your crew. This way we can up-skill fresh faces to Art Builds, while keeping long-term talent connected to the community.
