Hi! My name is Meera Bhatia and I am a fourth-year student at Oberlin where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance under the tutelage of Mr. Robert Walters as well as a Pedagogy, Advocacy, and Community Engagement (PACE) Concentration. I love playing all kinds of music - especially at Oberlin! I am originally from Colorado and I love to hike, ski, and be outdoors, outside of playing the oboe.
Hey everyone! My name is Diana Reid, I’m a fourth-year cello performance and history dual degree student from San Diego, California (go Padres!). I’m the co-founder and artistic director of the Musikos Collective, an interdisciplinary music performance organization that presents dozens of concerts annually in and around the Oberlin college and community space. I also recently founded the Oberlin Cello Society, an organization that will create cello ensembles, bring guest artists to give masterclasses and performances, present community lectures, and organize alumni networking opportunities for Oberlin cellists. When I’m not studying or practicing, you can probably find me swing dancing in Wilder Main with my friends, binge-watching Star Wars, or working on embroidery by the koi pond! I’m so excited to welcome you all to Oberlin, and I hope you have a great year!
Hello everyone! My name is Gabi Allemana and I am one of your ConPAL Coordinators! I was born in raised in Chicago, but spent this past summer in Oberlin. This will be my fourth and final year at Oberlin as a jazz voice major. I have participated in Oberlin’s Sonny Rollins Ensemble, the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, PI ensembles, the Oberlin dance department performances, and the Oberlin Gospel Choir. I study with La Tanya Hall, Gerald Cannon, and Eddie Henderson. Aside from my studies, I am the founder and co-president of the Oberlin Crimson Collective, a major organization on campus that focuses on creating a safer space for gender minorities in the sphere of Black American Music. Crimson has brought artists to campus such as Samara Joy, Terri Lyne Carrington, Miki Yamanaka, Madison McFerrin, Brandee Younger, and Ekep Nkwelle. Outside of the Crimson Collective, I am the director of the Oberlin Sexual Information Center, a Musical Director of the Latinx Music Union, a barista at Slow Train, a volunteer at the Oberlin cat shelter, and I have been involved in the Oberlin Jazz Society, as well. I am so excited to meet you all and help kick start your first year!
