Travel the World offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in different parts of the world as student and staff volunteers share insightful stories and experiences from across the globe. Each presentation is followed by a question and answer session where attendees can ask our speakers questions about their chosen location. Sessions can range from a specific place to something a bit broader, for example a region of a country or travel experience, such as inter-railing across Europe or travelling through South East Asia.
If you wish to share your knowledge of a particular place or travel experience, then you're in the right place! We are keen to provide a varied series that covers many subjects, so please get in touch with your suggestions. Whether you’d like to share your experiences and knowledge of a town, city, county, country or region – we want to hear from you!
Ideally, volunteers need to be available on either a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon during term time (however the date can be discussed with the Global Lounge team). In their own time and with sufficient notice, volunteers will need to prepare a 30 minute presentation on their preferred topic in time for the scheduled event.
Brush up on your communication and presentation skills, and practise public-speaking. Don’t worry — we will offer you support and guidance to make sure you feel comfortable presenting in front of a live audience.
The Language Café is an informal language learning event, encouraging fun and friendly conversations. With over 20 available languages and hundreds of participants, Language Café offers a great way to practise your language skills in a friendly setting, whilst meeting people from around the world. Every language has its own conversation group and, where possible, we divide groups by the language level from beginner to intermediate+. We try to keep our conversation groups small so that everyone gets a chance to speak!
Join in every Wednesday, (during term time) at these times:
2 pm: English-only Language Café
5 pm: All Languages (including English)
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED - please only apply in the case that you either:
a) want to volunteer as a Japanese, German, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, or Italian volunteer, and/or
b) can speak a language we don't currently offer.
Unfortunately, we do not need any more English, Mandarin, Cantonese or Hindi speaking volunteers for now, thank you.
