I emigrated to the U.S. from Iran as a teenager and continued my study of advanced Persian in the ensuing years. After getting an M.A. degree in philosophy and a master's degree in library and information studies, I started doing translation work in addition to my regular job as a librarian. My research focuses on how language and translation are central to law-making but often remain unaddressed or, when addressed, serve as tools subservient to the state. This also reflects the translation of human rights in contemporary contexts. My translation projects focus on colonialism, language, and translation.
