Ever since 1952, men and women compete in the same equestrian competitions during the Olympic Games. This advance in gender equality was made possible by the values that are pledged in the Olympic spirit, that are mixity, parity and crossbreeding of social roles. In this article, we will attempt to identify and analyses why when it comes to a leisure practice, women are dominant, whereas in Olympic equestrian competitions, we find mostly men. Then, our work will focus on women’s means to adapt i
The authors explore how groups deliberate and develop ideas in a communication experience. They note that gender bias plays an important role when positions are taken on behalf of the group. Thus, subject to the quality of their ideas, individuals are less likely to be selected in areas that do not conform to their gender. Individuals are also less likely to put themselves forward when they are part of the gender minority within their group. Social desirability is thus correlated with a search f

Participation in sport is highly valued by governments and policy makers. Policies and programs encourage participation of populations who are underrepresented in sport. In many countries sport participation is possible primarily under the auspices of voluntary sports clubs, many of which name demographic diversity as an organizational value. Underrepresented population groups continue to lag, however, in participating in sports clubs.

There has been a process of great change and development leading into 21st century in the world. Today’s employee is a very different person in terms of values and needs than the employee in earlier decades of the 20th century. Patriarchal and male power have shaped the construction of leadership, its culture, discourse, image, and practice for centuries (Reay & Ball, 2000). In both subtle and explicit ways, women face many barriers to participating in sports, which prevent women and girls from reaping the many benefits that can be gained from playing sports and engaging in physical activity. Australian cricket has traditionally been an exemplar of hyper-masculine sporting conservatism. However, cricket, as with a number of Australian sports, has recently introduced an elite women's league. Despite growth in participation and funding of women's cricket, it remains poorly understood at the elite level and particularly its fans. Drawing on the concept of gender-bland sexism (Musto et al., 2017), we investigate differences in fan engagement and perceptions of men's and women's cricket m

IS a Finnish newspage has done research how Finnish women do not get enough regognition as a sports team leader. They have made a little chart that shows how little women have made it compared to men. Only 20-25% out of a 100% are women and they are mostly in sports that do not have different leagues for men and women.
At first they say that those who discriminate in sports should have the consequence as those who use doping. They also say that it is wrong for a young athlete and the coach who is way older to be dating. They are also worried for the players behavior towards referees, opposing team, unsportsmanlike behavior and the use of drugs.
Coaches play a key role in realizing the human rights of athletes.

The sub-mediatization of women’s sport is a recurrent question in social science research. Issues are mainly based on traditional media and very little on the Internet, which is nevertheless positioned as the 2nd media medium for sports broadcasting. Although women’s soccer still has a weak presence in the media as a whole, it has nevertheless experienced strong growth in recent years. The objective here is to grasp the scope and the forms of visibility from Internet in a context strongly domina

After a career as a high-level basketball player, Paoline Ekambi develops the experiences that have allowed her to be excellent in the sport and those that have given her the opportunity to flourish as a woman, beyond the practice of basketball. Thus, she specifies that a collective performance comes from complex balances within a team. Paoline Ekambi invites players to testify around them the stereotypes that have allowed them to succeed but also the stereotypes of which they are victims. From
Weightlifting : a space of resilience for a transgender?
The practice of sports is part of a collective, even in the case of "individual" sports. It is within it that adolescents seize this type of space, framed by adults, to try to articulate on the one hand social stereotypes about the feminine, the masculine, virility, sensuality, and on the other hand the contradictory currents and desires that assail them. The resonance of these dimensions is a major psycho-social organizer of groups of sports teenagers. These groups can therefore be conceived as
This text is an opportunity to recall the two pillars that make up the construction of a stereotype: a simplification of what happens around oneself in order to re-enchant an imaginary world that belongs only to its author and which has the function of eliminating stimuli that disturb and to promote an inter-self according to a binary logic that leaves little room for the unexpected. It’s also the moment to recall what the opinion of S. Moscovici was about the links between a person and its envi
This article looks at young female referees in football and rugby aged between 15 and 24. It examines their socialisations, dispositions and representations. An epistemological overview of the concept of stereotype is proposed, reminding us that it is always a question of social representation and cultural construction in communication processes. Stereotypes continue to irrigate discourses, practices, imaginations and knowledge, while political and social discourses remain crossed by effective systems of representation to make a complex world comprehensible. The author thus reminds us that, below and beyond interculturality, the utopia of the global

Many authors have questioned (the consequences of) the feminisation of professional spaces. Our question concerns a sports and leisure space, football; and need we remind you that in sport, men and women do not mix or clash, with a few very rare exceptions? So how can football, in a space that is obviously masculine, be made feminine? How do women create and find a place in it? How does the female gender accommodate or transform a technical culture that is considered natural because it is male?
Women’s soccer is becoming the subject of worldwide fever pitch in a context strongly dominated by men. Is it therefore possible to speak of feminization, and should we see it as a collective phenomenon? This work attempts to understand both the scope and limits of this feminization and how it relates to male practice in a global dynamic of soccer development and its anchoring in national contexts. Without showing any causal effect, we establish statistical links based on an analysis of FIFA and

Gender is a major social and theoretical category that along with social class, race, age, ethnicity and others, must be incorporated into all theoretically based social analyses of sport. The centrality of body and physical performance to athletic experience makes sport a particularly powerfully setting for the construction and confirmation of gender ideologies and organized sport is clearly a potentially powerful cultural arena for the perpetuation of the ideology of male superiority and domin
There is no official legal obstacle hindering women to take part in administrative work in Turkey. Similarly, there is no opposition to female principals individually. The only obstacle is the traditional social and cultural structure and attitudes that prevent women from entering administrative duties. Women have been directed to the jobs related to health, education and art rather than as principals due to psychological, social and organizational reasons. However, there has been no resistance
The social value system offers masculinity a privileged position. Men think that they deserve this privileged position because of the heavy work imposed on them in the social arena. Sport is seen as a male activity that requires masculine gender role characteristics, within the framework of gender-based discrimination, which sees women as emotionally, physically and physically weak beings and emphasizes women's sexual identity.
