Milan, (more commonly known as Lani), is studying Data Analytics with a double minor in Computer Science and Political Science. Lani joined Black Honors Society in her Freshman year and has maintained her position as their Mental Health Co-Chair ever since. Lani is constantly advocating for mental health campaigns on campus, more specifically for Black students and Students of Color. Gabrielle Pinkney is a Music Industry major with a minor in African Studies. She began her collegiate involvements on campus as a Freshman as a VPA Leadership Scholar and a cast member of FYP in the production of Something Rotten. She continued to make an influential mark on campus during her sophomore year by joining the Black Honors Society as one of the founding members. She is also an Our Time Has Come Leader through the Office of Multicultural Advancement. Gabrielle joined the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble her second year and became the Director her Junior year. She also enthusiastically performs her duties as a VPA Ambassador. Gabrielle’s senior thesis project, This is Our Story, This is Our Song, will be a brief lecture series for underrepresented youth ages 12-14. The series will explore the accessibility of this art form in minority communities. It will also teach this demographic about opera and the renowned minority opera singers that have made history and those currently making strides to advance the diversity in opera. Gabrielle’s future aspirations are to be a world renowned opera singer as well as a Broadway performer. Along with fulfilling her performing arts career, She wants to attend Law School and become a Sports and Entertainment Lawyer to address the underlying racial disparities within these industries.
