Devoured it in one go. Characters are deep, rich and varied. Accessible story (doesn’t seem too “literary”), plays on themes of human nature and murky boundaries of right and wrong. But also a bit of a beach read. Depends how you look at it I suppose!
Sally Rooney
Fiction
Really good. By a Trinity graduate. Coming of age book but explores friendship/love/morality etc etc.

Gave up halfway through depite giving it numerous attempts. Was expecting "Course of Love" style narrative so was left disappointed.

Ariel Levy
Memoir/Biography
Well written, deeply personal insight. The way Levy writes is all-encompassing. Really enjoyed
Matthew Weiner
Fiction
Quick read. Really engaging. The story highlights the polar opposites of the American experience (haves vs. havenots, privileged vs. underprivileged) then brings them all together at the end.
Stephanie Danler
Fiction
Food
Coming-of-age tale as girl moves to the city and struggles to find her feet. No happy endings here. Somewhat overhyped/melodramatic but some relatable aspects made it worth finishing.
Reni Eddo-Lodge
Politics/Society
Everyone should read dives into the issue of race (particularly in Britain) and how it intersects with other aspects of identity. Clear examples of why 'reverse racism' doesn't exist. Challenges us to examine the institutions white people benefit from every day.
Susannah Cahalan

Anna Helen Petersen
Politics/Society
Well written, digestible examples. Well sourced. Hard to get into though.
Andre Aciman
Fiction
Emotionally draining, super intense, but well worth a read.
Jeffrey Eugenides
Short Stories
Fiction
As with most short stories - some more engaging than others. One to dip in and out of. Eugenides’ writing builds characters vividly within each short tale. Stories touch on a variety of themes but tied together by a sharp insight into human nature in all its forms. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I had more of a literary/insightful approach to reading? 3 stars for me, 4 for others I reckon.
Tim Murphy
Fiction
One of the best books I've read in a while. Tells the story of multiple characters across multiple passages of time. Centres around the AIDS crisis and a building on the Lower East Side in NY. Demonstrates the different paths life can take and how they interact. Loved this so much.
Ross Raisin
Fiction
About a young footballer struggling with his sexuality in a new club. Examines the complications of being 'other' within a group defined by its stereotypes, and really develops the character of a struggling Tom.

Fiction
Didn't get the hype (maybe I'm not literary enough...)
Sally Rooney
Fiction
Preferred it to CWF. Very 'plotless' fiction but loved the evolution of the characters and their lives over the years.
Donna Tartt
Fiction
MUCH preferred this to Goldfinch. Felt like Rules of Attraction meets Sparsholt Affair. Plot is not particularly believable but enjoyed the prose, and the length of the book means you get a good sense of characters.
Adam Haslett
Fiction
Loved this. So beautifully written. The multiple character perspectives helped to understand the story for all angles and feel a deep sense of empathy for those involved
Chloe Caldwell
Fiction
Exploration of queer female relationships and identity that I haven't come across before in a book. Nails the intensity and volatility that can be found in romantic relationships between women. Short but beautifully written
