Supportive research
P1: Must-have
A centralized watchlist, preferably with option to sync from another platform (letterboxd)
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: It's important to take any existing data the user already has and import it to save them time
P1: Must-have
Have user thumbs up or thumbs down (or swipe right/left) on movies and tv shows to see what they like for better suggestions
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: Everyone has distinct tastes, we wouldn't want to recommend something outside of their palette
P1: Must-have
Letterboxd is the biggest TV companion app. Mostly used for it's social aspect, ratings/reviews, watchlists, recommendations, and as a way to track previously watched items. This data is useful to finding matches with friends, or for getting started with AI recommendations
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: Letterboxd already exists and has a lot of downloads, we would want people to be able to use their already existing data with our app
P1: Must-have
This is the unique feature we offer. Using individual or joint watchlists, swipe and match with friends or swipe and build a watchlist on your own.
Interviews and surveys: This directly addresses the decision paralysis that came up in interviews and surveys, as well as the issue of finding something to watch that can be agreed on
P1: Must-have
A social aspect where you can have friends and followers - friends to match with, followers more to see their watchlists, reviews, etc.
Interviews and surveys: This directly addresses the decision paralysis that came up in interviews and surveys, as well as the issue of finding something to watch that can be agreed on
P1: Must-have
Show ratings and reviews from a variety of platforms so that users know how well received a title is
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: Reviews and ratings are high up on the list of deciding factors when choosing what to watch
P2: Nice to have
Use AI to provide users with recommendations based on their taste profile and watch history
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: Recommendations in apps aren't a unique feature, but with AI there could be more flexibility in those recommendations. Aside from that, it's a requirement for a TV companion app
P2: Nice to have
Allow users an easier way to login, with the potential of connecting with or inviting friends from those platforms
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: Most apps offer these as an alternative way to log in, so they're important to implement to create an easy experience for the user
P2: Nice to have
Categories based on the users taste profile, but also with a unique feature to see what your friends have been watching recently
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: This is a feature most streaming services and companion apps use, so users will expect it, but it's not the primary focus of our app
P3: Surprising and delightful
In addition to the matching feature, this could be a wheel to spin where beforehand you choose a general mood and watching situation (alone, while working, background noise, etc) to filter out options that suit that
Interviews, surveys: This could be a good option to offer for people who are indifferent about what to watch next and just wants to not think about it and pick something
4 Can come later
Display what services titles are on, and allow users to link and directly access the title from the app instead of having to go to the app and search for it
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: A lot of companion apps show what services titles are available on, but you have to go to that service and search for it yourself. It would be easier on the user if the link takes you to the title on that service
4 Can come later
Developing a web app for this down the road could be a good idea, some folks watch TV from their computers. Mobile is the priority, but a desktop app could be useful.
Interviews, surveys, competitive analysis: Letterboxd is primarily mobile but has a companion desktop app which is useful in some situations
