Since then I haven't stopped learning, eventually dropped out of university and moved from my tiny home town in the south of France to Sydney. I now spend my time between Australia and the US making design tools at InVision.

http://pmperceval.com/
Peter Perceval is a Jedi Knight when it comes to unconventional career paths. He has been passionate about design for the better part of two decades but being quite skeptical of life after high school and unsure of what career path to embark upon. He actively freelanced before deciding to pursuit an academic career in design. He eventually took the plunge and received a BFA in Design from the University of Central Florida. Shortly after that he started his first business which was an online publication that celebrated music, art, and culture. Designing, creating, and running every aspect of this business it would eventually grow into a joint venture with his friend David Plakon (grammy nominated artist, UX designer at Code & Theory)creating a record label, and studio where they filmed major artists live and cross pollinated with the publication. Eventually selling his business led to Peter focusing solely on music and traveling the country with his band Day Joy for a couple of years. Meanwhile design was always present. It was always supplemental income and a part of his life, in music, art, orbusiness. In 2013 he decided to take a radical departure from art and design and moved to Tel Aviv, Israel where he received an MA in Counter Terrorism and Diplomacy studies. He was particularly interested in how art and branding was used in terrorist organizations and focused his thesis in this direction. While living in Israel he was also the Brand Manager and Art Director for Con Art Magazine which is a premier fashion and art publication in Israel, reimagining their branding and creating their digital presence. In 2015 he moved to Austin and began a more traditional design career by doing Visual Design for Whole Foods. After doing contract workfor a number of great companies in Austin he settled down at IBM as a Senior Designer in 2016.

Systems Engineer turned Customer & User Experience Designer
Software Engineering
Systems Engineering
http://www.lindsayt.com
You're a confident and determined newcomer to the technology industry. I'm sure you are pumped to be part of designing the future. I was when I got started! But now that you've made your way through a few coding courses or design boot camps, you're probably realizing that it's hard to get a break. For designers, specifically, every startup wants a "lead." They ask for a portfolio of launched products but in an industry where 90% of startups fail, how are even the most seasoned designers suppose to have that many products out in the world?Believe me, it's not you. It's the collective industry. People keep coming up with new Names for principles that already existed. The jargon is out of this world! Others want to say that building digital products and start-ups is totally different than building physical products and real businesses. They're wrong. In 2002, I designed my first user interface while studying Systems Engineering. Since then, I have been OBSESSED with designing technology for people. After college, I set out on a mission to be successful in Silicon Valley & the start-up world. Even with epic persistence and a graduate degree from UC Berkeley, I felt I was unable to succeed. Fifteen years in, I'm a "Lady Engineer" and I still haven't left tech. My mission is to increase the success rate for (com)passionate and people-minded start-ups. I empower savvy entrepreneurs to grow thriving start-ups by clearing the path between what your customers want and what the engineers build. My promise to my clients is the same for you:I promise to create bridges to your dreams, give thoughtful guidance, offer clear & simple strategies, make valuable introductions and deliver a quality above and beyond any academic institution. Yes, some of us still care about education.

Product Designer at Instacart
Product Design
http://www.tanayajoshi.com
My Name is Tanaya Joshi and I am a Product Designer at Instacart. I was born in Mumbai, India, and moved to the U.S. at the age of 11. I have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and I worked at Delta Air Lines, Inc. as an operations support engineer before going to grad school for Industrial Design. The summer after my first year in grad school, I interned at a mom and pop startup designing physical products. It was there that I was introduced to UX. I enjoyed working in the 2D space so instead of going back to grad school in the fall, I accepted went to work with John Deere in Moline, IL. There, I was the lead designer on a cotton harvesting app and wrote a research study for transitioning to a lighter UI to avoid glare on iPads that are in JD machines. The following summer, I worked at Frog Design in Austin, TX as an Interaction Designer. There, I designed products, spaces, and apps. Following that, I went back to school to finish my final year, where I got a research assistantship to redesign our class registration system to be accessible for blind and visually impaired users. In 2016, I accepted a job in Austin, TX. with Carbon12 Creative, a boutique UX agency, which was in the process of getting acquired by McKinsey Digital Labs when I got there. In my time at C12+MDL, I worked on some interesting products like marketing websites, an ecosystem for Nickelodeon to combine their 3 iPad apps into 1 and pair that with a mobile on-boarding experience for parents, a software for brokers to manage their agents, revamping the website and introducing etc. I also worked collaboratively with PMs and Engineers to launch an internal site as well as pitch, research, and design for a business overhaul for a client. I found the McKinsey environment to be a little too buttoned up so I ended up leaving the company and accepted an offer with Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. There, I worked on the Conversion Lift team in Ads and Business Platforms to create a product called Test and Learn that would help everyone from the mom and pop shop to the million dollar investors, run tests by answering questions. I was responsible for designing the forms and on-boarding experience, though I worked collaboratively with a PM, PMM, Engineers, Researcher, Content Strategist, and Product Designers. A few months ago, I left Facebook sooner than I'd like, because I wasn't passionate about the space I was working in. I am currently a designer at Instacart where I'm working on projects under Growth and Partner teams. On Growth, I'm working closely with PMs to introduce better user experiences to our existing products while scoping out opportunities for us to grow. On the Partner team, I am working to design a catalog to help partners update their inventory effectively and independently.

Managing Director & Executive Creative Director at Designing North Studios
Managing Director
http://designingnorth.com/
I began my career in web design, development and strategy in late '94 when me and my bartender/techie boyfriend started a small web design firm surfing the famous Wind n' Sea beach in La Jolla, California. No one knew what the World Wide Web was, yet. But before that, I was a painter, graphic artist, media designer, singer/songwriter, and social ecology undergrad. I started my first graphic design company whilst in college partnering with a well-known art professor from the University of Arizona. This is where I learned designers had to also be salespeople. I went on to land a spot on the Denny’s Restaurant account team at one of the top five international advertising agencies, DMB&B in Los Angeles (yes that was this account: Lenny's? Denny's!). Became a veteran of Ernst & Young’s Center for Technology Enablement inside their consulting practice, where I led a bicoastal team of designers and developers in the early days of the web space. I later co-founded a custom invitation design & lifestyle company in Santa Barbara, California, that engaged in the planning & brand development of large events and paper goods for exclusive clientele (Landon Donovan's wedding invitation was indeed delivered in a wooden box, revealing 'snow' upon opening, in Van Gogh's hand-written font). Founded a boutique design & consulting group delivering brand creative, corporate identity, and UI/UX design solutions for small to enterprise-wide projects with high-profile clients across a range of industries and called it {razpberrizoo}, inc. (yes, those cLinky brackets are indeed on the corporate stamp). And before co-founding and creating my current gig at Designing North Studios in 2012, I was responsible for the strategic direction & implementation of Stanford Law School’s online communication and branding initiatives under Dean Kramer (the now current president of the Hewlett Foundation); in charge of their public website, private social community, social media landscape, collaboration tools, and custom application development projects.--Whew.

I've designed products for B2B (SaaS) companies, B2C startups, as well as clients such as Disney, Verizon, and Tribeca. Design encapsulates three interests of mine - problem solving, systems thinking, and aesthetics. I also teach design to incarcerated inmates at San Quintin Prison. For those who have a meeting with me, my google hangouts is wkarnes@gmail.com
