My Name is Tanaya Joshi and I am a Product Designer at Instacart. I was born in Mumbai, India, and moved to the U.S. at the age of 11. I have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and I worked at Delta Air Lines, Inc. as an operations support engineer before going to grad school for Industrial Design. The summer after my first year in grad school, I interned at a mom and pop startup designing physical products. It was there that I was introduced to UX. I enjoyed working in the 2D space so instead of going back to grad school in the fall, I accepted went to work with John Deere in Moline, IL. There, I was the lead designer on a cotton harvesting app and wrote a research study for transitioning to a lighter UI to avoid glare on iPads that are in JD machines. The following summer, I worked at Frog Design in Austin, TX as an Interaction Designer. There, I designed products, spaces, and apps. Following that, I went back to school to finish my final year, where I got a research assistantship to redesign our class registration system to be accessible for blind and visually impaired users. In 2016, I accepted a job in Austin, TX. with Carbon12 Creative, a boutique UX agency, which was in the process of getting acquired by McKinsey Digital Labs when I got there. In my time at C12+MDL, I worked on some interesting products like marketing websites, an ecosystem for Nickelodeon to combine their 3 iPad apps into 1 and pair that with a mobile on-boarding experience for parents, a software for brokers to manage their agents, revamping the website and introducing etc. I also worked collaboratively with PMs and Engineers to launch an internal site as well as pitch, research, and design for a business overhaul for a client. I found the McKinsey environment to be a little too buttoned up so I ended up leaving the company and accepted an offer with Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. There, I worked on the Conversion Lift team in Ads and Business Platforms to create a product called Test and Learn that would help everyone from the mom and pop shop to the million dollar investors, run tests by answering questions. I was responsible for designing the forms and on-boarding experience, though I worked collaboratively with a PM, PMM, Engineers, Researcher, Content Strategist, and Product Designers. A few months ago, I left Facebook sooner than I'd like, because I wasn't passionate about the space I was working in. I am currently a designer at Instacart where I'm working on projects under Growth and Partner teams. On Growth, I'm working closely with PMs to introduce better user experiences to our existing products while scoping out opportunities for us to grow. On the Partner team, I am working to design a catalog to help partners update their inventory effectively and independently.
