These dialogs also partially cover the app interface, which means the users can't see all of it and can't access it, but get partial "I think I need to be there but I don't know what it is or what I should do with it" distraction

Need technical fill in here. This a) means that the only way the user knows they're sharing or connecting via Open Garden is a tiny icon in an overpopulated bar b) that the user has to remember to look there and what to look for, after one brief (users tapped past this quickly) exposure to it)

The icons look like the same WiFi icon that means something different elsewhere on your phone or a toggle. So far testers have not seen this as an issue but these testers read the menu item words out loud, suggesting they weren't looking at the icons.
