2023 Call for Madison Poet Laureate

The City of Madison is seeking nominations for the next Madison Poet Laureate. The Poet Laureate position celebrates and recognizes the role of poetry and the arts in City culture, and formally honors one poet for their civic contribution to Madison through public participation in our regional literary community. From early August until October 6, 2023 (extended deadline) the City of Madison will be accepting self-nominations and nominations from any member or organization of the Madison community for the next Poet Laureate. GUIDELINES: Please read the full nomination guidelines & explore the programs of the poet laureate at cityofmadison.com/poetry ELIGIBLITY: The select poet must: - Reside within the City of Madison for the duration of their term as Poet Laureate. - Be 20 years of age or older. TIMELINE: - UPDATED: Submissions close: 12:00 pm (noon) Friday, October 6, 2023 - Recommendation made by the Madison Arts Commission: October, 2023 - Recommendation voted on by Common Council: November-December, 2023 - Celebratory reading & initiation: Monday, January 15, 2023 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) - Poet Laureate serves 2 years, with the option to renew for another 2 year term.
