Delft AI Safety Initiative || AI Safety Fundamentals

We are excited to invite you to apply to our AI Safety Fundamentals course this fall! The course is developed with insights from leading AI experts, and offers a foundational understanding of the advancing landscape of AI Safety. The main focus of the course is addressing safety concerns associated with highly advanced AI systems, such as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Transformative Artificial Intelligence (TAI). This focus distinguishes the course from more conventional AI safety programs that might concentrate on immediate applications like autonomous vehicles. Instead, we explore societal-scale risks posed by highly capable AI systems. The course is valuable whether you are seriously considering pursuing a career in AI Safety, or just want to explore the field. Course certificate: Included at completion! Course Details: - Start: 16th of September - Duration: 5 weeks (the course starts in week 3 of Q1 and ends in week 7 of Q1) - Weekly Commitment: 3-4 hours - Location: TU Delft - University campus Content for the course: - Week 1: The Present and Future of AI - Week 2: AGI Risks - Week 3: Goal Misgeneralization - Week 4: Scalable Oversight and Model Evaluations - Week 5: Interpretability and Governance Each week consists of 2 hours of self-study and a 1.5-hour discussion with a small group (4-7 people), led by a facilitator who has completed the course before. - Deadline for Application: Tuesday, 10th of September. From your current understanding: What problems is the field of AI safety trying to address?

What could be some reasons our future AI systems may turn out to be unsafe? How likely do you think it is that humans will build unsafe AIs in the future? OR What do you think about "if it causes harm, just turn it off" as a proposal for AI safety?
Have a look at our website for a description of the problems of AI Safety: delftaisafety.org/why-ai-safety. Then, please take 5 minutes to answer one of the questions above.
