New York Textile Lab is a design and consulting company. We design yarns and textiles that connect designers to fiber producers and mills to help grow an economically diverse textile supply ecosystem. The resources that we provide give designers agency to make better decisions about their social and environmental investments. Our textiles embody deep value through our sourcing and production practices. The fibers we use are grown on healthy, climate beneficial soil within our region, and we partner with mills and manufacturers that are local, transparent, and ethical.
NY Textile Lab believes that the worlds textile production should grow out of abundant, regenerative systems that emerge from collective thinking, rather than centralized systems that rely on extraction, scarcity and competition. Connect to the textile supply ecosystem with NY Textile Lab and thrive.

The New York Textile Lab is part of The New York Carbon Farm Network is an interdependent group of small brands and independent designers who want to source Climate Beneficial™ fibers from farms that are implementing Carbon Farm Practices on their lands. Our Carbon Farm Network is organized as a purchasing cooperative, where designers work collaboratively to source fibers and make yarns for the commercial production of textile products. Our Carbon Farm Network supports Carbon Farm Planning on the farms we are partnered with.
What is Carbon Farming? Carbon Farming is the adoption and implementation of agricultural practices intended to reduce, sequester, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions on farms. Climate beneficial practices associated with Carbon Farming can provide additional benefits to farms by improving water quality, increasing profitability, promoting community relations, reducing energy use and adapting to climate change and extreme weather events.
How does our NYCFN support Carbon farming?
The membership fees associated with our CFN support the implementation of Carbon Farm Planning on the lands of our partnering farms. The amount of yarn we make is based on the capacities and limitations of the workable landscapes in our bioregion. This enables a distributed growth logic and a 'commons' approach to how we extract and regenerate resources from our lands as we produce our textiles. Our CFN operates through democratic governance, enables collaborative value creation, and supports the distributed growth of small to mid-scale businesses. This way, everyone has a stake in the cultivation and marketing of Climate Beneficial™ textiles and clothing.” Our yarns are verified through our affiliate Fibershed organization. If you're a designer interested in using climate beneficial materials contact: Laura Sansone nytextilelab@gmail.com
Thank you for your interest in sourcing regional, regeneratively grown fibers. There are different ways you can work with Laura and New York Textile Lab's network:
NYS Regional Yarn Sourcebook Membership
You can download the NYS Regional Yarn Sourcebook. Here you'll find some NYS farms that are part of our network and are producing beautiful handcrafting yarns and fibers.
Consultation Services
As a designer, you may just want to meet up for an hour to learn about where to source regional, Climate Beneficial™ yarns and fibers. Or you might need more assistance managing your sampling and production. Since Laura works primarily with small brands and startups she can put together a consultation proposal for you that's workable for small budgets. Please reach out to Laura to set up a brief call to discuss your needs and see if it makes sense to work with her.
Carbon Farm Network Purchasing Cooperative
Laura is part of a purchasing cooperative with a few other designers. Together they purchase fiber from regional farms and make yarns in order to meet minimums. Their Carbon Farm Network supports Carbon Farm Planning on the farms they are partnered with. The Carbon Farm Network develops yarns that are Climate Beneficial™ here in NYS. Designers who are not members of their Carbon Farm Network can still purchase these yarns at sampling prices. The Carbon Farm Network is also open to adding new members. You can set up a meeting with Laura to learn more about this new economic model.
